Davenport Man Pleads Guilty to Vandalizing Cars

Scott County Jail

One of the two people accused of damaging 75 cars in Davenport last fall has pleaded guilty. Yesterday, 26-year-old Shane Wheeler pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal mischief in Scott County District Court.

Sarah Ritter reports he'll be sentenced February 17th.
Summary

In early October, Davenport police responded to more than 60 incidents on River Drive and Kimberly Road, where vehicle windows had been shot out with a pellet gun. Wheeler confessed that he and 17-year-old Ralph Richardson did the damage.

Richardson was charged as an adult with one count of first-degree criminal mischief. His final pre-trial is scheduled for February 3rd.

Wheeler faces up to 10 years in prison, and has been in the Scott County Jail since October. In a written plea agreement, the Assistant Scott County Attorney says prosecutors could dismiss additional charges Wheeler faces, including theft, arson, and trespassing, from two separate incidents last summer.
