QC Lobbies to be Mass Vaccination Site

Quad Cities River Bandits

Some local officials think the Quad Cities would be a great location for a mass COVID vaccination site. And they're hoping the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will agree as they implement President Biden's plan to open up to 100 centers across the country.

A member of the Scott County Board of Supervisors, Ken Croken, points to the Quad Cities' central location, and the minor league baseball stadium in downtown Davenport.

"Baseball and football stadia around the country are being used as mass vaccination sites, they are readily adaptable, and Modern Woodmen Park is ready for that."

Supervisors have contacted the Iowa Department of Public Health asking it to request a federal vaccination site in the Quad Cities. A FEMA spokesman says any large scale vaccination sites may receive federal funding and support but will be managed by local and state governments.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
