Plans for Affordable Housing in Rock Island

City of Rock Island
where Gorman plans to build new units of affordable housing in Rock Island

More units of affordable housing could soon be built in Rock Island. Monday night the city council will consider selling some property along 11th Street to Gorman and Company, from Wisconsin.

Gorman plans to build 50 units along 11th Street, between 5th and 7th Avenues.

In November, the city council gave its preliminary approval to selling the property to Gorman, and the company has agreed to pay 60,000 dollars, plus closing costs and attorney fees totaling 1,100 dollars.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
