Election officials in Iowa are preparing for combined school board and city elections in the fall.
Board of education elections used to be held in September. But in 2017, Iowa lawmakers passed a law to hold them in November on the same day as city elections.
So this month, Clinton County mailed new voter registration cards to voters so they'll know where to cast their ballots.
County Auditor Eric VanLancker says his staff has been preparing for the first combined election since December. And many voters will have new polling places.
VanLancker and state lawmakers hope the consolidation results in more people voting in school district and city elections. Clinton County voter turnout in the last presidential election was 74%, but turnout has been much lower in local elections.
