A federal judge based in the Quad Cities has been promoted. Tuesday, the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois announced Sara Darrow is the new chief judge for the district.
Darrow has served as a district court judge in the Rock Island division since 2011 when she was nominated by President Obama. Prior to that she worked in the US Attorney's office for eight years, prosecuting a variety of federal crimes.
She is the first woman to serve as chief judge, and replaces James Shadid after he completed his seven year term.
The US District Court for the Central District of Illinois serves 46 counties, and hears cases in Rock Island, Peoria, Urbana, and Springfield.
