The federal courthouse in downtown Rock Island has closed because it's unhealthy for employees and the public.
The chief judge for the Central District of Illinois ordered the closure, saying the building is "uninhabitable due to unsafe conditions." And that includes what he calls "intractable mold infestation, re-occurring flooding, and harmful air quality."
Because the closest Illinois federal court is in Peoria, about 100 miles away, the court's functions are being moved to the federal courthouse in downtown Davenport, less than 2 miles away. And they're expected to open across the river on Monday (10/29).
