The intersection of 38th Street and 18th Avenue will be resurfaced.

Rock Island is planning to resurface two of its busiest streets.  Monday night, the City Council approved a plan to repair the intersection of 18th Avenue and 38th Street.

City Engineer Michael Kane says it's part of a larger plan to resurface 18th Avenue from 17th Street to the Moline border, and 38th Street from 7th Avenue to Black Hawk Road.

He says 80 percent of the work will be paid for by the federal government.
Construction at the intersection will begin as early as May, while the remainder of the work will begin later this year and early next year. The project also includes fixing sidewalks, driveways, and alleys in the construction area.

"Just bear with us, we'll move through as quickly as possible."

Kane estimates the total cost of the work will be 8 to 9 million dollars.
