RI Parks Director Retiring

Rock Island

Rock Island will soon start looking for a new executive director of the Parks and Recreation Department. Last week, Bill Nelson announced he'll retire this spring.

Nelson came to the city in 1998 after serving as parks director for the city of Stillwater Oklahoma.
And during his tenure here Rock Island completed several major projects, including the construction of the Whitewater Junction water park, expansions of the Fitness and Activity Center, and planning and construction of Schwiebert Riverfront Park.

Nelson will retire at the end of April.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
