Say good-bye to the meters in downtown Rock Island. Monday night the city council approved sweeping changes for parking, including removal of the downtown parking meters.
Jeff Eder, director of Community and Economic Development, says city staff and business owners worked together to simplify the rules for parking downtown.
Starting January first, on-street parking in downtown Rock Island will be for either 30 minutes or 4 hours, city lots will allow parking for 4 hours or be free all day, and the parking ramp will be free all day.
