"It's easier to indict a ham sandwich than a police officer." That's what a local activist says about grand juries, which usually don't find enough evidence to indict police officers. Tomorrow, Bob Babcock, from Davenport, will hold a meeting for people to tell their stories about law enforcement violence and to discuss grand jury reform and other solutions.
Babcock says people are "hungry to create change."
Last year, Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson introduced the Grand Jury Reform Act in the House. But even if it became law, Babcock says governors could appoint special prosecutors. He thinks that's a "huge hole."
Babcock's "All Lives Matter Legislative" meeting will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Rock Island Township Hall, 2827 7th Avenue.
