Davenport Collects $185,000 in Unpaid Fines

Hundreds of people with unpaid fines from Davenport's "red light cameras" waited until the last minute to take advantage of amnesty. This summer, the city allowed drivers with outstanding fines from "photo enforcement" citations to pay the original, 65 dollar fine without added fees.

Finance Director, Brandon Wright, says nearly 2,800 people took advantage of the program. And about half of them paid their tickets right before the August 4th deadline. And the city collected a total of 185,000 dollars.

The vast majority of the outstanding fines were NOT paid. And now, Wright says those drivers won't be allowed to register their vehicles with the state until after paying Davenport in full, including a 25 dollar collection fee.

Over the next five years, the finance director says the city hopes to collect a total of 600,000 dollars or about two-thirds of the amount owed.
