Echo in the Valley & The Thing With Feathers

Echo in the Valley by Theo Goodell
Featuring Cam Best, Kate Kremer, and Aaron Randolph III (on piano)

Echo in the Valley is an attempt to tell through continuously mutating theme and variation the story of the entire natural and civilized history of Toronto as dreamt by an Echo escaped from Glenn Gould’s piano. The story is told by Wolves. The attempt will fail, because Wolves can’t tell time. For three or more voices, because two would be in conflict, obviously*. (*Music counts as a voice.) The reading was presented on May 26, 2016 at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport Iowa.

The Thing With Feathers by Rachel Jendrzejewski
Featuring Jessica Denney, Angela Rathman, Brent Tubbs, and Sara Tubbs

The Thing With Feathers is a short play by Rachel Jendrzejewski. Inspired by River Action’s RiverStages Reading Series and Podcast Project, the piece uses experiments with language, structure, and sound to grapple with contemporary human relationships to nature and the enormity of climate change. Rather than telling a single story, the play serves as an evolving expression of the complexity, anxiety, and wonder inherent to questions about the future of our planet. This recording documents a public reading of the play's very first draft, presented by River Action and the QC Theatre Workshop on May 26, 2016 at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. Conversations with audience members, other artists in the series, and online listeners continue to shape revisions of the text and related future work.
