Rock River Ice Jam May Cause Flooding

The Rock River in Moline has risen is above flood stage, and residents should look out for flooding. This afternoon, the water is half-a-foot above flood stage at Moline. The National Weather Service says the Rock should crest today and remain over flood stage through next week. And a flood warning is in effect until further notice.

The weather service says people living close to the Rock should remember that ice jams can cause the river to rise several feet in a very short time. Currently, the river is filled with ice, from bank to bank, from Moline all the way to the Highway 84 bridge in Colona, and even farther upstream. And as always, the weather service says  gauge readings may be affected by ice through April.
