Higher education will continue in eastern Iowa this fall with a mix of in-person and virtual classes. Michelle O'Neill reports.
Dr. Don Doucette, Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, expects about one-third of students to take classes face to face.
And students at all the Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott community college campuses will be asked to follow CDC recommendations for COVID-19.
Professors will take attendance and notes so if a student becomes infected with the virus, the school can follow-up and help with contact tracing.
Craig DeVrieze, from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, says classes will start on August 17th, one week early.
All its classrooms have been set up for social distancing. Half the class will attend in person one day with the other half online. Then the next day they'll switch.
St. Ambrose students will also be asked to commit to the "Bee Safe, Bee Responsible" promise and follow CDC guidelines.
Doucette and DeVrieze also say enrollments at both Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and St. Ambrose University are steady to slightly higher compared to a year ago.
