Scott County High Schools Hold Virtual Graduations

Bettendorf School District

With help from a local television station, high schools in the Iowa Quad Cities will hold virtual graduation ceremonies this weekend. On Saturday, KWQC-tv will show one-hour programs produced for each of the six high schools.

Davenport Superintendent Robert Kobylski says planning began when they started to realize the long-term impacts of the pandemic.

"It was very important for us to have a celebration of some kind for our high school graduates who've put in four years of hard work. This is a culminating moment in their life for not only them and their family, and we wanted to honor that as appropriately as we possibly could."

And their goal is to make each "ceremony" look as normal as possible, and hope each student feels appreciated. The programs will include messages from principals and student leaders, show pictures of each graduate, and have each name read aloud.

The graduation ceremonies start at 11 am Saturday on KWQC, with the following schedule:

• 11 a.m. – North Scott High School

• 12 p.m. – Pleasant Valley High School

• 1 p.m. - Davenport North

• 2 p.m.- Davenport West

• 3 p.m.- Davenport Central

• 4 p.m.- Mid City High

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
