The cost to attend the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges will go up, starting in the fall. Monday night, trustees approved raising tuition for in-state students.
Spokesman Alan Campbell says the cost will go up seven dollars, from the current 168 dollars per credit hour to 175.
"Some of it is we needed to raise tuition to keep up with our expenses we have out there. And then part of it is slightly due to the situation that we're all in now with COVID-19 and what it's doing to businesses."
Despite the increase, he says tuition for Scott, Muscatine, and Clinton Community colleges will still be the second lowest in Iowa among all colleges and community colleges.
Fees will stay the same except for a small increase for welding classes.
