Virus Concerns Extend Augustana Spring Break

Augustana College

Spring break will start one week early, and last one week longer than planned, for students at Augustana College. Friday President Steve Bahls announced in a message to students that in response to concerns about COVID-19, they'll be sent home this weekend.

Instead of lasting one week, and starting March 20th, the break begins Friday, and will last for two weeks, until March 30th.

"What we're asking you to do we understand is a burden on you, but we must understand the top priority at Augustana College is student safety. And after consultation with public health officials this was a necessary decision."

Bahls says that will give Augustana faculty and staff time to plan for resuming normal classes, or telling students to stay home and offering classes online.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
