Bettendorf's Interim School Superintendent hopes to bring stability and a new perspective to the district.
Jim Spelhaug says in recent years turnover in the superintendent's office may have caused some instability.
He plans to do whatever is necessary to help the staff and students have a great conclusion to the school year and prepare the district for its new leadership team.
The former head of the Pleasant Valley School District also plans to address complaints about safety.
Last month, the board of education announced plans to create a safety advisory committee made up of volunteers. But Spelhaug wants to learn more first by listening to the volunteers and then deciding what action to recommend to the board.
Spelhaug hopes his experience and perspective will help prepare the Bettendorf School District for the arrival of a new, permanent superintendent in July.
