A major building project begins Friday at Knox College in Galesburg. The college will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of a long-term renovation of the Umbeck Science-Mathematics Center.
College officials say the first phase will focus on the center section of the 47-year-old building, last a year and-a-half, and cost $12.5 million.
Future renovations will follow, to update the four wings of the center that now house Knox's departments of chemistry, physics, biology, psychology, computer science, environmental science, environmental studies, and mathematics.
The groundbreaking is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday.
