This week in Moline, hundreds of small businesses are learning how to win and keep contracts with the government. Wednesday and Thursday at the TaxSlayer Center, the Army and the Iowa-Illinois Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association are hosting the Midwest Government Contracting Symposium.

Major General Duane Gamble, Commander of the Army Sustainment Command on Arsenal Island, says the military needs the private sector. The symposium features lectures, workshops, interactive training, and panel discussions.

About 500 small businesses are attending the two-day symposium. Thursday's schedule includes sessions about manufacturing, logistics, "Mistakes and Lessons Learned," and information technology. More than 40 exhibitors are on hand to help company owners and managers.
