Virtual Mass for Easter

Our Lady of Victory

Hoping to make Easter Sunday as normal as possible, one Quad Cities church will celebrate with a virtual mass this weekend.

Father Jake Greiner, Pastor of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport, says he and a small group of helpers will get up very early on Sunday and record a mass so it's available starting at 7 am.

"We want it there first thing in the morning so when people get up on Easter Sunday morning they'll have something to look to, hopefully to start off their day in a beautiful way. It's going to be so very different that we're just hoping and praying that this can be a source of hope and a source of peace on Easter Sunday."
Staying within the guidelines of having no more than 10 people together at a time, Greiner will record the mass with help from a reader, organist, cantor, deacon, and camera person.

This will be the 4th week his church has recorded a mass for Sunday morning, and made it available on You Tube.

"I would say that my own thinking has been expanded quite a little bit  during these difficult times. And again what was not possible in my mind a month ago is now happening."

And trying to make it as normal as possible, the mass will include incense.

On a normal Easter Sunday, he says Our Lady of Victory hosts three masses, attended by a total of about 1,700 people.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
