United Way Announces New Leaders

United Way

Leaders have been chosen for this year's campaign for the United Way of the Quad Cities. The co-chairs will be Mike Parejko, ceo of the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, and Bryan Dixon, ceo of R-K Dixon.

Parejko says he first got involved with the United Way more than 15 years ago, and even led a local campaign at one of his previous jobs.

He calls it a good opportunity to give back to the community.

"It's a central point that touches many areas. If we think about what we would like to do as the United Way here - we fight for health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community."

Parejko says the first responsibility for the new co-chairs is to raise money for the United Way through Birdies for Charity, and the John Deere Classic, in two weeks.

The goal for the upcoming campaign probably won't be announced until the fall.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
