36th Honor Flight Prepares For Departure

WVIK News

98 veterans will depart Thursday on the Quad Cities 36th Honor Flight.

Three veterans of World War Two, 23 of Korea, and 72 from Vietnam will make the one-day trip to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials honoring their service. They will also make stops at the Air and Space Museum and Arlington Cemetery to watch the Changing of the Guard.

The local Honor Flight chapter began in 2008, and opened the trips up to Vietnam veterans last November. World War Two or Korean veterans, along with those who are terminally ill, get first priority.

The trips are funded entirely by donations, so the veterans do not need to pay.

The veterans and their volunteer guardians will return Thursday night to the Quad City Airport around 10 p.m.
