Non-profits in the Quad Cities area hope golfers score even more birdies during the John Deere Classic. This morning at Deere headquarters in Moline, the PGA tournament kicked off the 2016 Birdies for Charity campaign. Nearly 500 non-profits will ask for donations. And most people pledge a penny per birdie scored in the Pro-Am plus the official four rounds.
Director Kristy Ketcham Jackson says last year, donations to Birdies for Charity set a record.
Paul Scranton, from the local branch of Morgan Stanley, will serve as this year's tournament chair. He says last year, a record 1,700 volunteers made the tournament possible.
