Davenport Police Respond to Outbreak of Gun Violence

WVIK Staff

Hoping to re-assure residents, Davenport police have announced the arrest of a suspect in the latest case of "shots fired." After a warrant was issued Friday, 19 year old Joshua Brewer was taken into custody Monday morning.

Police Chief Paul Sikorski says this is the 121st case of "shots fired" so far this year, compared to 118 cases in all of last year. And that's resulted in the re-assignment of many officers.
Sikorski emphasizes the department is also focusing on prevention - gathering intelligence about people and locations around Davenport.

The chief declined to speculate on the cause of this year's big increase is gun violence in Davenport, saying some cases are connected and some not, some are gang-related, and some not. He says the recent cases are not random shootings, but rather aimed at specific people.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
