Labor Day is not about a day off school, big sales, or the end of summer. Joshua Schipp says it's about recognizing workers and the contributions they make to our country and communities. On Monday, that's what thousands of Quad Cities residents will do during the 32nd Annual Labor Day Parade in East Moline.
Schipp is the AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison for the local United Way. He says the parade also unites working people. Candidates and elected officials from all parties are welcome to participate. And unions from the Illinois and Iowa Quad Cities march together, such as union members who work at the John Deere Davenport Works and those who work at Deere Harvester.
Schipp says many Rock Island County elected officials and local Illinois lawmakers participate in the Labor Day Parade in East Moline. But he hopes more from Scott County and the Iowa Legislature will consider it next year.
The parade will begin at 11 on Monday morning at the entrance to the Harvester Works parking lot in East Moline. It's sponsored by the Quad City Labor Day Parade Alliance.
