Red Kettle Campaign Begins

Salvation Army

A sure sign of the upcoming holidays is about to make its first appearance. Tonight the Salvation Army of the Quad Cities will kick-off its annual Red Kettle Campaign.

Each year the campaign raises nearly two-thirds of the Salvation Army's annual budget.
The kickoff ceremony will be held at Northpark Mall in Davenport, and the goal will be announced by Bettendorf mayor Bob Gallagher and Moline Mayor Scott Raes.
The ceremony begins at 6:30 pm, near J.C. Penney's.
Last year's Red Kettle Campaign raised 752,000 dollars.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
