Downtown Rock Island Fire Origin

Authorities know where the weekend fire in downtown Rock Island started, but have not yet determined the cause.

Fire Marshall Greg Marty is confident the fire early Saturday morning started in a rear storage room, on the first floor, of the Mississippi Cafe building, on 18th Street. But he's still looking for why it started there.
The fire destroyed the Mississippi Cafe building and damaged the building next door that housed the Jaded Gypsy Tattoo business, but he says it may be possible to save it.
Marty has been reviewing photos and videos of the fire and downtown Rock Island, and talking to witnesses. And is now ready to start processing all this information - hoping that will lead him to the cause.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
