Matilda The Musical will be presented October 16, 17, and 18 in the New Era Community Building at 3455 New Era Road in rural Muscatine, next to Wild Cat Den State Park. The show is a joint production of New Era Dinner Theater and Pearl City Players Theatrical Society. On Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 dinner will be served at 6:00 PM followed by the show. Reservations are required for dinner performances. There will be matinee performances on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 17 at 2:00 PM which will not include a meal.

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, Matilda The Musical revels in the anarchy and imagination of childhood. It’s an inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. With the help of her supportive teacher and a sympathetic librarian, she deals with indifferent parents and a cruel headmistress.

The Tony Award-winning show is packed with catchy songs and high-energy dance numbers. The script is by Dennis Kelly and original songs are by Tim Minchin. The show has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill audiences of all ages around the world.

The production is directed by Courtney Cooper. Musical direction is provided by Stevie Whitehead. Terri Walsh is the stage manager while Dottie Lawrence wrangles the children. The cast features Matilda Wormwood – Elliot Montoto, Miss Agatha Trunchbull – Jamie Montoto, Miss Honey – Kim Feuerbach, Mr. Wormwood – Mo Kasim, Mrs. Wormwood – Kay Gevaert, Michael Wormwood – Pedro Perales, Mrs. Phelps – Brianna Harvey, Bruce – Brooke Johnson, and Lavender – Sofie Roquet. There is also a large ensemble of children and adults.

This year’s dinner will consist of tossed salad, chicken breast, parsley potatoes, New Era green beans, dinner roll, chocolate cake, and beverage. The dining room, theater, and restrooms at New Era are air conditioned and handicap accessible.

Tickets for the matinee performances can be reserved but will also be available at the door, they are $15 for adults and $10 for children through age 10.
