The calendar is packed with spring and summer events for tourists to enjoy in the Quad Cities and northwestern Illinois. This afternoon at the botanical center in Rock Island, officials from the Quad Cities and Henry County convention and visitors bureaus, plus Geneseo, Moline, and Rock Island parks departments discussed the power of tourism and previewed dozens of arts and recreation events.

Gas prices have risen slightly since last month in the Quad Cities, but they're still relatively low. That's according to Triple-A Chicago.

Two of the largest owners of shopping malls in the US will not get together after all. The Simon Property Group has called off its hostile take-over bid for the Macerich Company.  

Unemployment has fallen again in the Quad Cities - from 7.4 per cent at this time a year ago, to 6 per cent in February. 

Muscatine Chamber of Commerce

The state of Iowa wants to help build a new hotel in downtown Muscatine. On Friday, the board of the Iowa Economic Development Authority approved up to 10 million dollars for the proposed Stanley Hotel and Conference Center.

Three weeks after it shut down for maintenance and refueling, one of the two nuclear reactors just north of the Quad Cities is back in service. Exelon says Unit One at the Quad Cities Generating Station in Cordova resumed generating electricity on Tuesday.

Villas at College Hill

City officials hope the completion of three new homes in Rock Island will encourage more construction. This afternoon, a ribbon cutting was held at the Villas at College Hill, across 30th Street from Augustana College.

A company known for river cruises in Europe, Asia, Egypt, and Russia plans to start offering trips on the Upper Mississippi River. This morning, the Senior Vice President of Finance for Viking River Cruises visited Davenport, toured the Figge Art Museum, and listened to the mayor and others talk about what the Quad Cities has to offer passengers.

Simons Raises Its Offer

The offer has been raised for the company that owns two malls in the Quad Cities. 

  Unemployment in the Quad Cities rose after Christmas, but was still significantly lower than a year ago.
