Leaders of local congregations and an advocacy group want to make sure every vote is counted. A day after the general election, Quad Cities Interfaith, One Human Family, and Progressive Action for the Common Good held a Zoom conference to promote unity and democracy.
Dr. Matthew Coomber, a theology professor from Saint Ambrose University, says he and the other leaders are concerned that every vote will not be counted. He cited a Texas lawsuit that attempted to have election officials throw out thousands of ballots collected during a drive-through operation.
Rabbi Linda Bertenthal, from Temple Emmanuel in Davenport, says everyone should be patient because it's taking longer to count the increased number of absentee ballots. And as a "proud Navy mom," she wants all absentee ballots from members of the military to be valid and their votes counted.
UPDATE 11/06/2020: The rally and prayer vigil will be held online, not in person as originally planned. Information about how to join the virtual event is on QC Interfaith's Facebook page HERE.
