Hoping to bridge the gap between the two parties in the Iowa legisature, a Davenport man has annoucned his candidacy for the state house. Jonathan Vance is running as an Independent in House District 89 which is represented by Democrat Monica Kurth.

While working in the restaurant industry, Vance says he's done a lot of charity work, but now wants to be part of something "bigger," and do something more for his state. And the way to do that would be to stress bi-partisan cooperation.

"I personally believe that we need elected officials that are going to go up there, not worry about casting a party line vote and try and bridge the gap, reach across the aisle, to pass legislation that will affect meaningful change for all of us."
He says he and Kurth agree on some issues, but also have significant differences.

"Her belief is that if we flip the House that we can take one party line vote over another. My belief is that if we trade one party line for another then we're just going to see the same deadlock we've seen just with Democrats controllingt the House. "

Vance is currenly director of purchasing for a local group of restaurants.

He's a little concerned that his very first campaign must be nearly all remote because of the pandemic, but has been able to knock on a few doors, talk to a few potential constituents, and put out some signs and posters.
