Municipal Election Tuesday in Illinois

Municipal elections will be held in Illinois Tuesday. Voters will elect aldermen and school board members, plus decide some tax questions.

In Rock Island, there's two candidates on the ballot to represent the 4th ward on the city council, while in the 2nd and 6th there's one name on the ballot but write-in candidates are also running.

Candidates are running un-opposed in Moline, in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th wards. But there's one race in Silvis - in the 2nd ward. Three names are on the ballot for the 4th Ward seat on the East Moline city council.

Residents of the East Moline School District will pick 3 from a list of 5 for the board of education, while in Rock Island there are 7 people running for 3 seats. Candidates for the Moline school board are running un-opposed.

Milan is asking village residents to approve a half-cent increase in the sales tax, while the Coal Valley Fire Protection District has two questions on the ballot - asking for a property tax increase, and for an increase in the special ambulance tax.

Polls in Rock Island County, and across Illinois, will be open Tuesday from 6 am until 7 pm.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
