On Monday, Quad Cities residents went on the ice to paint the names of loved ones who served in the US military, all the way from Vietnam to Afghanistan.
Brian Lindsey was there to honor four of his relatives, one of whom was killed in action.
"So we wanted to honor them, and really thank the Storm for doing this. It's really nice to see that they sponsor all of our veterans that serve. We just want to give them as much support as we can."
Once painted, a crew misted the names with water. After the water freezes, the names will be preserved in the ice for several weeks.
Robert MacMillan, a Vietnam veteran honoring several generations of soldiers, says he appreciates the chance to see all the names--especially Vietnam veterans like himself who received little recognition when they returned from duty.
"[We] come down here and look at all the names, honor all the different people. There's a lot of deceased veterans that have their names out here. Any way we can get the names of veterans out is helpful."
This Saturday, November 13th, is the Quad City Storm's Salute to Military Night. During the game, the players will wear special jerseys to be auctioned off to raise money for the Quad Cities Veterans Outreach Center.
