The fall season is underway, and Quad City municipalities are offering free yard waste pickup for a limited time. Here is what you need to know.
Bettendorf
Bettendorf picks up yard waste once a week on garbage day between Friday, October 24th, and Tuesday, December 2nd.
No stickers are required, and taking grass clippings, leaves, and garden waste to the Davenport Compost Facility is also an option. They do not accept any material over 5 feet in length, dirt, lumber, mulch, garbage, dirt-covered tree root balls, railroad ties, landscape timbers, rocks, or sod.
You must have your collection out by 7 A.M. in a Kraft paper bag, no more than 50 pounds. Branches can be no more than 5 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter, with bundles being able to go up to 18 inches in diameter.
Do not burn yard waste.
Davenport
Davenport is offering no-sticker curbside yard waste collection every week from Monday, October 27th, to Friday, December 5th.
Place yard waste in kraft-ply bags at your pickup point on your normal pickup date.
Bundled brush must be only wrapped in twine, be no longer than 5 feet in length, and weigh less than 50 pounds for collection. Logs and limbs must additionally be less than 6 inches in diameter.
Taking grass clippings, leaves, and garden waste to the Davenport Compost Facility is also an option. They do not accept any material over 5 feet in length, dirt, lumber, mulch, garbage, dirt-covered tree root balls, railroad ties, landscape timbers, rocks, or sod.
Do not put yard waste into your garbage cart, an open fire, or put it into the street. Fines can be given out for any violations.
East Moline
East Moline is having their no-sticker yard waste pickup on regular garbage days from Monday, November 3rd, to Saturday, November 29th.
Free leaf bag bundles at City Hall, City Hall Annex, and Maintenance Services begin earlier on Monday, October 27th.
Each residence is limited to one bundle per week.
Moline
Moline's leaf vacuuming service and sticker-free yard bag collection start on Monday, October 13th, and end on Friday, December 12th.
Residents are advised to rake leaves not on but next to the street, avoid debris like rocks and sticks, do not park in front of piles, and avoid waiting for the vacuuming service without bagging first.
In relation to the yard bag collection, use biodegradable bags up to 30 gallons, and bags should be placed at least three feet from your garbage cart.
Burning leaves, tree branches, and grass clippings is prohibited in Moline, but mulching them back into your yards or composting them is an encouraged alternative.
You can find more information by calling the Leaf Hotline or going online to view the leaf collection map.
Rock Island
Rock Island is collecting leaves for residential refuse customers from Monday, October 13th, to Thursday, December 4th.
Customers must place the leaves in their approved paper yard waste bags or those provided at no cost by Rock Island, which will be available starting Monday, October 6th. Nothing else should be placed inside.
The City’s bags will be located at the Public Works Department, South Rock Island Township Office, and the Rock Island Township Assessor’s Office.
Bags need to be placed at the normal refuse collection location on the regular refuse collection day, and a truck will collect the leaf bags.
Participation in the Yard Waste Subscription Service and yard waste stickers are not required.
