Scott County Watersheds' Annual Summer Snapshot Volunteer Event

This weekend, Scotts County Watersheds will host its annual summer event where anyone can help.

This weekend on July 13th, Scotts County Watersheds will have its annual Summer Snapshot Volunteer event. The event needs over 50 volunteers to help test the quality of local streams and creeks.

The Scotts County Watershed Snapshot Volunteer Event takes place during the spring, summer, and fall and has been happening for 20 years.

The event starts at 8 a.m. at Roosevelt Community Center in Davenport, IA. Once there, volunteers will be shown a presentation and trained to use a chemical test kit before going to 70 different testing sites. Participants will be trained to look for macroinvertebrates or water bugs.

The data collected from the streams and creeks will be put into one of Iowa's largest water quality databases, which is then used to identify trends and needs for impairment.

Anyone is eligible to volunteer, no experience is needed. Participants will be given donuts and coffee in the morning and pizza and t-shirts in the afternoon.
