Starting at 10 am, artists will transform the pavement into their canvas at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Rock Island. Everyone is invited to participate in a community art piece or by voting for their favorite drawing.
People can vote on a ballot for the People's Choice Award or donate five dollars to draw in the group piece. They'll fill out a 2' by 2' square that's part of a larger image and are even able to keep the chalk they used.
Anyone is eligible to compete and no prior experience is needed to enter.
"It’s a lot of fun," says Events Coordinator Ben Gougeon. "You get to watch these incredible artists in action and just have a great time down by the river.”
This two-day event has live music, food trucks, concessions, craft brews, as well as face painting, a bounce house and a kid's chalk zone. Awards will be announced on Sunday, with artists competing for cash prizes. The different categories are youth, honorable mentions, best 3-D and artist's choice.
