People in Scott and Dubuque counties may have trouble calling 911 from their landline phones due to an outage.

In a release Thursday morning, the Scott County Emergency Management Agency said the outage is potentially affecting the usage of landline phones across Iowa, including the ability to call 911. Crews are on site trying to fix the problem, but the agency does not yet know when it will be fixed.

Officials are advising Scott County residents to identify alternative ways to reach 911 in case of an emergency. Cell phones do NOT have to be connected to an active plan or carrier’s system to dial 911.
