Quad Cities unemployment rose slightly in April

The unemployment rate in the Quad Cities rose slightly in April, compared to the same time last year.

The jobless rate was 4%, from 3.6% in April 2023. Total non-farm employment in the area dropped 2,100 over the year, meaning that many jobs were lost.

There were roughly 2,400 job losses in professional business services and 500 in leisure-hospitality. Retail trade and private education-health services were the sectors with the most growth.

The unemployment rate reflects the amount of people out of work, who are looking for a job.
