The jobless rate was 4%, from 3.6% in April 2023. Total non-farm employment in the area dropped 2,100 over the year, meaning that many jobs were lost.
There were roughly 2,400 job losses in professional business services and 500 in leisure-hospitality. Retail trade and private education-health services were the sectors with the most growth.
The unemployment rate reflects the amount of people out of work, who are looking for a job.
