Starting next month, the University of Dubuque will have a new president for the first time in 25 years.

Travis Frampton is moving to Dubuque from Texas, where he worked as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Schreiner University.

Frampton says he looks forward to hearing from faculty and alumni about their visions for the college. And listening to members of the local community.

"One thing that we were able to do here at Schreiner that I think would be also true in Dubuque would be for the university to remain relevant locally," he said.

"So as we create academic programs or strengthen current academic programs, finding ways of plugging those programs and strengthening the ties with the local community, I think, would be helpful."

He'll succeed Jeffrey Bullock, the longest serving president in the school's history. In a release, a U.D. spokesperson said Bullock will stick around for a while to help with the transition.

Frampton's first day as president is June 1.
