Moline man arrested and charged after stand-off with police

The Moline police spent hours talking down a man who barricaded himself in a garage with a gun over the weekend.

Sunday morning, around 11:30 am, officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 3200 block of 40th Street. Police secured the area after Cayne Wilford, a 27-year old Moline man, barricaded himself in the garage with a gun.

Officers had spent about three hours negotiating with Wilford, when he fired a shot in the garage. About an hour later, he surrendered and was taken into custody.

In a release, Police Chief Darren Gault said Sunday was an "extremely tense and difficult day" for the city. He said some of the officers called to help de-escalate the situation had just finished working the midnight shift, and had responded to a double homicide scene earlier that morning.

Wilford was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He is being held in the Rock Island County Jail.
