Davenport cyclist killed in one of two crashes this week

A biker and a pedestrian were hit by cars in separate incidents this week in Davenport.

On Tuesday afternoon, Davenport police responded to the 7000 block of North Division Street, where a pick-up truck hit a 27-year old cyclist. He died at the scene. Police say the 54-year old driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The next morning, around 7:30 am, police responded to the intersection of Rockingham Road and South Concord Street. While turning onto Rockingham Road, a car hit a 43-year old woman crossing the street. Police say she was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating both crashes. The department's traffic safety unit held a Spring Safety Event for media following the second crash.
