This morning, the Dubuque Fire Department responded to an apartment building construction site on Lake Ridge Drive, around 8:30 am.
A person was trapped in the trench under roughly eight feet of soil. Workers and firefighters attempted to dig them out.
The person was recovered and found dead around 9:45 am. Fire crews and police remained on the scene for a couple hours to secure the site.
No other injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
