At Wednesday's city council meeting, Alderwoman Jazmin Newton said the city reached a tentative agreement with the humane society.
It was considering creating its own animal services department, after the humane society said it couldn't continue providing services without a significant funding increase.
Next month, the city council will review the contract for approval.
