The latest drought assessment for the US shows rain and snow over the last month has provided relief to a number of states, but not Iowa.

The US Drought Monitor for Iowa released 1/29/2023

The National Weather Service says drought conditions in parts of the Midwest should improve from now through April. But dry conditions will persist in other areas, including southeastern and western Iowa.

In Illinois, parts of the state, such as the Illinois River valley, have recently been abnormally dry (see Midwest map below). But the weather service expects that to improve over the winter, since the forecast calls for slightly above normal precipitation (see US map below).
