Frittelli Wins John Deere Classic

Dylan Frittelli is this year's John Deere Classic champion. His performance at TPC Deere Run on Sunday clinched the South African's first ever PGA Tour win.

Heading into the final day, he was two strokes back from the lead behind Andrew Landry and Cameron Tringale. After scoring seven under par on Sunday, he ultimately won the tournament by two strokes at 21 under par overall.

Frittelli, who has played as much golf as anyone on the PGA Tour in recent years, says this will give him an opportunity to step back and focus more on training.

"It's huge, I mean it's job security for the next two and a half years. It gives me the ability now to hopefully play less golf and get to the gym with my trainer, get stronger, and work on things that will hopefully prolong my career and make me a better player in the long run.”

Frittelli says he tries to focus on his own game instead of how the other golfers are playing. So, he didn't even realize that he was leading until late in the round on Sunday.

“Not until hole 17, I looked down the hill to read my putt and there was a giant scoreboard behind the pin and I saw my name so immediately my eyes went there.”

While in college at the University of Texas, he was the teammate of Jordan Spieth, who won his first career tournament at the John Deere Classic in 2013.

Following his win, Frittelli got on a plane to Northern Ireland to get ready to compete in the British Open, which starts on Thursday.
