CCIW Adds Men's Volleyball

CCIW

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin will serve up a new sport next year. The CCIW has announced men's volleyball will begin in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Augustana College Men's Volleyball became a varsity sport last winter. Atheletic Director Mike Zapolski says the team had been competing in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League.

"It will be affiliated with our parent conference. I think the bonus to that is that you're competing against schools that have similar academic profiles and admission standards." said Zapolski.

He also says the change will also open up new opportunities for the men's volleyball team.
"We'll have a two year period where we need to compete in the conference as an independent. When that two year period is up, our conference champion will automatically qualify for the national tournament."

This is the second time in five years the CCIW has added a sport to its list, with the addition of men and women's lacrosse in 2015. Greenville University and Loras College will also compete in men's volleyball in the conference.
