Regular Season Ending for the Midwest League

The Midwest League will end its regular season this weekend, and prepare for the playoffs that begin next week. The Quad Cities River Bandits have qualified for the postseason, but not the Clinton Lumber Kings.

The River Bandits play at Peoria Friday night, then host Wisconsin for three games Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. After one day off, the Midwest League Playoffs begin on Wednesday ( 9/6 ), but their first round opponent has not yet been determined.

A loss to Kane County Wednesday night eliminated the Lumber Kings from the playoffs. They'll play one last game at home Friday night, against Kane County, then finish the regular season at Burlington Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
