Giovanine Honored by Fellow Coaches

Augustana College

The men's basketball coach at Augustana College has been chosen to join a select group of coaches. In April, Grey Giovanine will be inducted in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Now in his 18th season at Augustana, Giovanine has compiled a record of 347 wins and 125 losses, led the Vikings to seven CCIW titles, and won five tournament championships.

He was named D3hoops.com Midwest Region Coach of the year in 2011, and national coach of the year last year by Basketball Times.

He'll join his father, Gerald "Chips" Giovanine in the IBCA Hall - his father was inducted in 1984 for his years of coaching high school teams in Illinois.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
