The Quad Cities River Bandits play their first game in the playoffs tonight, after a record-breaking season. Not only did the team finish with the second best record in franchise history, but it also broke the record for the highest average attendance at home games.
Spokesman Marco LaNave says the River Bandits finished the regular season with 88 wins and 50 losses. That's the best winning percentage of any team in full season minor league baseball.
He says the success was despite "a lot of player turn-over."
LaNave says 250,000 people watched the River Bandits play at Modern Woodmen Park this season. That's the highest total attendance in 20 years. And on average, 39-hundred people came out to each home game, which is the highest in franchise history.
The Quad Cities River Bandits start a best-of-three-series at Cedar Rapids tonight. The winner will go on to another best-of-three-series to determine the division title.
